Crochet loses 2030 opt-out as IL clause activates
Boston gains a $15 million club option for 2032 after the left-hander reached 120 consecutive injured-list days.

Garrett Crochet’s 120th consecutive day on the injured list Sunday activated an injury provision in his six-year, $170 million contract extension with the Red Sox. The clause voids his ability to opt out after the 2030 season and adds a $15 million club option for 2032.
The provision applies if Crochet spends at least 120 consecutive days on the IL with a left arm injury between 2026 and 2031. The 2025 American League Cy Young Award runner-up went on the IL on April 29, retroactive to April 26, with left shoulder inflammation.
Crochet is throwing from 90 feet and increasing intensity as he aims to return before the end of the season. Boston has gone 25-11 since the All-Star break and holds the second AL Wild Card spot.
