Georgia Southern has named veteran Max Johnson its starting quarterback, putting him atop the depth chart for a fourth college program.

Johnson, 25, previously started at LSU, Texas A&M and North Carolina. He transferred to Texas A&M in 2022 and UNC in 2024, then returned from a broken femur that required five surgeries while at North Carolina.

Georgia Southern opens at home against Charleston Southern on Sept. 5. The Eagles visit Clemson on Sept. 12.
